What Is Important for Chemicals & Detergents Packaging?

The right packaging depends on what the product needs to be protected from, how it is filled, how long it will be stored and how customers use it after opening. For chemicals & detergents, focus on the following:

  • Chemical compatibility — The exact formulation must be checked against the pouch structure. Oxidizers, solvents, corrosives and reactive chemicals may require specialist packaging.

  • Moisture barrier — Powder detergents and hygroscopic chemicals can cake or react after absorbing humidity.

  • Strong seals — Reliable top and side seals help contain powders during storage and transport.

  • Powder handling — Wide-opening stand-up pouches simplify filling and dispensing of compatible dry products.

  • Clear labelling area — Packaging should leave adequate space for hazard, use and regulatory information required for the product.

Chemicals & Detergents Packaging Size Guide

What Size Pouch Do I Need for Detergent?

Products are normally sold by weight, while flexible packaging is specified by volume. Because bulk density varies from product to product, the same weight can require very different pouch sizes.

As a starting point, modern compact washing powders typically have a bulk density of approximately 0.60–0.90 g/ml. We also recommend leaving sufficient headspace so the pouch can be filled and the zipper or top seal closed comfortably.

Detergent weight Approx. product volume Recommended pouch volume
500 g≈ 670 ml750–850 ml
1 kg≈ 1,350 ml1,500–1,700 ml
1.5 kg≈ 2,000 ml2,200–2,500 ml
2 kg≈ 2,650 ml3,000–3,400 ml
3 kg≈ 4,000 ml4,400–5,000 ml

Important: This size guide is approximate — and it applies to compact powders. Spray-dried and many eco powders are lighter (0.35–0.50 g/ml) and need considerably more volume for the same weight. If you are unsure which size you need, order a sample and test it with your actual product before placing a larger order.

Recyclable Packaging & PPWR

The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is changing how packaging placed on the European market is designed, evaluated and recycled. For producers planning their future packaging, recyclability is becoming an increasingly important consideration.

We are here

2025

PPWR in force

The new EU packaging regulation replaced the old directive.

2026

Rules apply

Most obligations start applying across all EU member states.

2030

Recyclable by design

All packaging on the EU market must be designed for recycling.

2035

Recycled at scale

Packaging must also be collected and recycled in practice.

2040

Stricter targets

Higher recycled-content and waste-reduction targets apply.

22pack offers recyclable packaging options, including PE-based pouch structures with EVOH barrier options, alongside conventional high-barrier packaging for products where greater protection is required.

Test the Packaging Before You Order

If you are unsure about size, material or barrier level, order samples and test them with the actual product. A physical filling test is the most reliable way to check capacity, headspace, zipper usability, sealing and overall presentation.

Chemicals & Detergents Packaging FAQ

Can doypacks be used for detergent powder?+

Yes, for compatible dry formulations. Chemical compatibility with the exact product must be verified before use.

Are these pouches suitable for liquids or corrosive chemicals?+

Do not assume so. Many 22pack pouches are designed primarily for dry products; reactive, corrosive or liquid chemicals may require specialist packaging.

Why is moisture barrier important for detergent powder?+

Humidity can cause hygroscopic powders to clump, cake or change performance.

Can chemical pouches be resealable?+

Yes. ZIP closures are useful for compatible products used over multiple occasions, alongside the initial heat seal.

Can the pouches be customized with our brand?+

Yes. Depending on the pouch, 22pack offers branding through custom labels, printing and selected decorative finishes such as hot stamping.

How do I choose the right pouch size?+

Use the actual product rather than weight alone. Bulk density varies, so compare the product volume with the pouch specification and leave enough headspace for clean closing and heat sealing.

Compare pouch formats, barrier structures, finishes and sizes, then test the strongest candidates with your product. Choose the option that balances protection, usability, shelf presentation and your sustainability priorities.
