What Is Important for CBD Packaging?
The right packaging depends on what the product needs to be protected from, how it is filled, how long it will be stored and how customers use it after opening. For cbd packaging, focus on the following:
-
Barrier protection — Botanical and aromatic dry products can benefit from protection against oxygen, moisture and light.
-
Aroma containment — A dependable barrier and seal help retain product aroma and reduce transfer of external odours.
-
Opaque options — Black, white, kraft and aluminium-layered formats provide discretion and light protection.
-
Resealable closure — ZIP pouches support repeated use after the initial top seal is opened.
-
Regulatory fit — CBD rules vary by product type and market. Packaging design and claims must match the legal status of the specific product in each country.
CBD Packaging Size Guide
What Size Pouch Do I Need for CBD flower?
Products are normally sold by weight, while flexible packaging is specified by volume. Because bulk density varies from product to product, the same weight can require very different pouch sizes.
As a starting point, dried hemp flower is very light — typically approximately 0.15–0.25 g/ml — so it needs far more volume per gram than most dry goods. We also recommend leaving sufficient headspace so the pouch can be filled and the zipper or top seal closed comfortably.
| CBD flower weight | Approx. product volume | Recommended pouch volume |
|---|---|---|
| 10 g | ≈ 50 ml | 75 ml |
| 25 g | ≈ 120 ml | 150–175 ml |
| 50 g | ≈ 250 ml | 275–325 ml |
| 100 g | ≈ 500 ml | 550–650 ml |
| 200 g | ≈ 1,000 ml | 1,100–1,250 ml |
Important: This size guide is approximate — and it applies to dried flower. Milled or trimmed material packs denser, while whole fluffy buds need the most space; edibles and other formats follow their own densities. If you are unsure which size you need, order a sample and test it with your actual product before placing a larger order.
Which Packaging Material Is Best for CBD Packaging?
Recyclable PE + EVOH

The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is changing how packaging placed on the European market is designed, evaluated and recycled. For producers planning their future packaging, recyclability is becoming an increasingly important consideration.
2025
PPWR in force
The new EU packaging regulation replaced the old directive.
2026
Rules apply
Most obligations start applying across all EU member states.
2030
Recyclable by design
All packaging on the EU market must be designed for recycling.
2035
Recycled at scale
Packaging must also be collected and recycled in practice.
2040
Stricter targets
Higher recycled-content and waste-reduction targets apply.
22pack offers recyclable packaging options, including PE-based pouch structures with EVOH barrier options, alongside conventional high-barrier packaging for products where greater protection is required.

Test the Packaging Before You Order
If you are unsure about size, material or barrier level, order samples and test them with the actual product. A physical filling test is the most reliable way to check capacity, headspace, zipper usability, sealing and overall presentation.
CBD Packaging FAQ
Can 22pack pouches be used for CBD products?+
They can be used for compatible, legally marketable products, but suitability and legal requirements depend on the formulation, product category and destination market.
Is CBD food legal across the EU?+
CBD used as a food or food ingredient is subject to EU novel-food rules. Do not assume a pouch makes a product legally marketable; check the applicable authorization and national requirements.
What pouch protects aromatic hemp products?+
An opaque high-barrier pouch can help limit oxygen, moisture, light and aroma transfer.
Can CBD packaging be recyclable?+
Yes. PE-based recyclable barrier pouches are available for compatible dry products.
Can the pouches be customized with our brand?+
Yes. Depending on the pouch, 22pack offers branding through custom labels, printing and selected decorative finishes such as hot stamping.
How do I choose the right pouch size?+
Use the actual product rather than weight alone. Bulk density varies, so compare the product volume with the pouch specification and leave enough headspace for clean closing and heat sealing.
Find the Right CBD Packaging
Compare pouch formats, barrier structures, finishes and sizes, then test the strongest candidates with your product. Choose the option that balances protection, usability, shelf presentation and your sustainability priorities.
